Chasing Gold

Nov 27, 2011 by     No Comments    Posted under: On Life, Poetry

Ebony wheels race
Kicking up rainbows
On misty pavements
And I chase
Colored promises
For fruitless miles
Taunting, teasing
Haunting, pleasing
Casting off smiles
Before visions of gold
And shimmering luck
Dissolve into shadows

New Poem 6 Nov 11

I added a new poem, “The Sun Rises Over Highacre” today after spending the weekend at the historic house in West Virginia. For those unfamiliar with Highacre, the late-1800′s home and is now rented by the PATC (Potomac Appalachian Trail Club) to members who want to get away and explore history. Built in the late 1800′s, the house offers dramatic views of the valley and surrounding mountains, as well as walking access to Harper’s Ferry and Jefferson’s Rock. A graveyard flanking the back of the house (pictured) provides a fascinating look into the families who founded the town. If being steeped in nature and history doesn’t relax and inspire you, then know that Verizon’s data plans are roaming in that area of West Virginia. Sometimes it’s just good to unplug.

The Sun Rises Over Highacre

Light slides crisp
Over the river snaked land
Embracing gray ruins
In awakening blue
Frost-coated blades release tendrils
Nature’s first breath
Dissolving in day’s birth
And I watch from a window older than memory
Listening to footsteps of yesterday
Clamoring across aged wood floors
While voices lift from
Moss-etched markers, remnants
Of lives forged in battles and dreams
The valley lies below, stretched
Long in night’s last shadows, blending reality
And straddling time
